Artwork Setup Files
ARTWORK SETUP FILES ARE POSTED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE, PLEASE READ THESE IMPORTANT GUIDELINES, THE PRINT QUALITY OF YOUR ORDER DEPENDS ON IT.
To avoid any issues start all designs in the CMYK color format at 300 dpi resolution and include 0.125 bleed all around. For example a 3.5 x 2 business card would be 3.625 x 2.125 with bleed, please remember to always keep texts within 1/4" from the edges which is the green line on the templates. Large format items are printed on digital presses, they do not require a resolution of 300 dpi and optimal quality can be achieved at 150 dpi. PLEASE REMEMBER TO ALWAYS FLATTEN YOUR WORK BEFORE SUBMITTING FILES FOR PRINTING. If you don't flatten your files before submitting we cannot be held responsible for missing texts or objects on your prints, overprint issues as well as transparency issues. An easy way to flatten your work is to open it in Adobe Photoshop and go to: Layer and select: Flatten image. WE ONLY PRINT IN CMYK, PLEASE DO NOT SUBMIT FILES WITH SPOT COLORS, CONVERT ALL YOUR SPOT COLORS.
Ink Coverage
When adding all the values of your CMYK color recipe, it should never exceed 300. For example, a very common mistake is to make a black recipe as C-100 M-100 Y-100 K-100 resulting in a value of 400, such ink coverage will make press sheets sticky, almost impossible to dry and you will end up with huge streaks in your graphics. Speaking of blacks, if you want a toned down black that looks more like a very dark charcoal use C-0 M-0 Y-0 K-100, if you want the darkest rich black possible use C-30 M-30 Y-30 K-100.
Colour Matching
Your monitor displays bright colors in the RGB format. Commercial presses use the CMYK color format known as 4 color process. It is simply impossible for any facility in the world to colour match what you see on your screen. We also combine many jobs from different customers on the same press sheet. This allows you to split the setup costs with other customers like yourself instead of having to pay for them alone. That being said, our state of the art equipment will make a pleasant blend of the color profiles of all the jobs on that same press sheet to get as close as possible to your color values, there will be a slight variation of color from one job to another and from time to time when you reprint the same artwork.
Importance of embedding images
It is extremely important to embed all images when saving/exporting your files. Failure to do so will result in either missing images, or your system using a low resolution preview image as a replacement.
Importance of placing a white box behind any artwork with white background
If your design contains a white background it is very important to include a white box matching the final size of your design. If you don't place a white box the position of the design elements cannot be determined and will end up being centered by default. This might not be what you want. The image below shows a very common issue.
Importance of embedding fonts or outlining text on your designs
It is extremely important to make sure that all fonts are included in your designs by selecting the Embed Fonts function during file export or by converting texts to Outline. Failure to do so will show the correct font on your screen but if we do not have that font installed on our system the image below explains clearly what will happen and we cannot be held responsible for the outcome.
Borders
Since we cut through many sheets at a time, borders are never a good idea especially if they are very close to the edge and movement is to be expected. If you want to take your chance please be aware that your borders might appear uneven like the example below.
Spot UV or Foil designs
For Spot UV designs you will need to supply an additional file with the elements you wish to spot gloss. all elements on this file shall be 100% black and include only Spot UV elements. It is also very important that your CMYK file aligns perfectly with your Spot UV file when placed on top of each other. It is very important to keep in mind that there is always some slight movement that can reach 1/16th of an inch during Spot UV pass on the press, applying Spot UV to fine design elements is not a good idea.
Overprints
If your software allows you to turn overprints on or off it is extremely important to turn overprints OFF for any designs you upload for print on our website. The image below shows the result of what would happen for any object or text placed one on top of another if overprints are switched to the ON position. We cannot be held responsible for any overprint or transparency issues as it is impossible for us to judge if the effect is desired or not. A great way to avoid these issues is to create a copy and flatten the design you will upload for print.
